Sky Safari can take 10-15 seconds to load but then it's plenty fast. I can't control the magnitude of the stars nor the DSOs, I can't control the types of DSOs, as far as i can see, it's basically take what you they give you. I'm not sure what you mean by field of view issue? But that's the ONLY thing I can think of missing from Sky Safari. So it's still nice, even if it might require reading. But the information page in Stellarium is super-good at linking with Wikipedia. Yes, I miss the "audio" versions of objects that we experience in Sky Safari. I've had Sky Safari for a couple of months, but that capability, if it exists, just never jumped out at me. Third, they've seemingly really done a super-job creating an app that "feels like" Stellarium on a laptop, but leverages the smartphone's unique interface and "feel." So we get a true "consistent" experience.įourth, it's just super-easy to solve the field of view possibilities (in more than one way). There's "no wait" for deep space, in spite of the fact that I've dialed up DSOs so that I'm seeing hints and labels for TONS of objects. I'm primarily comparing it to SkySafariPro and Sky Guide, but, along the way, I've probably tried a half-dozen other apps for iPhone and, so far, Stellarium + just "drew me in" more than any other with it's intuitive, uncluttered interface and deep space possibilities. I haven't tried it, but what are the key features that you like and have you compared it with other mobile planetarium apps? (I know it has scope control and large data catalogs for a mobile app.)įirst, it feels incredibly immersive.
